(Bloomberg) -- Singapore has detected one case of the more contagious Covid-19 strain that first emerged in the U.K. and is now leading to tougher restrictions in many parts of the world.
Further tests of Covid-19 cases who had arrived in Singapore from Europe over the month through Dec. 17 show that a 17 year-old Singaporean girl has the so called B117 strain, and 11 others are preliminarily positive for it, the Ministry of Health said in a statement Wednesday. The girl, who had been studying in the U.K., arrived in Singapore on Dec. 6 and was confirmed to have an infection Dec. 8. Her case was included in that day's case count.
"As she had been isolated upon arrival in Singapore, we were able to ringfence this case so that there was no further transmission arising from her," the ministry said. "There is currently no evidence that the B117 strain is circulating in the community."
The presence of a more contagious Covid-19 strain could pose a challenge to Singapore, which has been lauded for its success in quelling the pace of infections in the community. The nation has imposed tougher border restrictions to stop travelers from the U.K., including barring entry and transit for those who have traveled there in the past 14 days.
U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has imposed tougher regulations across a swath of England to rein in the more contagious strain, which is spreading quickly across the country.

A moon-orbiting probe got a stunning up-close view of the "great conjunction" of Jupiter and Saturn from Earth's rocky satellite.
Monday (Dec. 21), Jupiter and Saturn appeared closer in the night sky than they had in about 800 years during what's known as a "great conjunction." People all around the globe watched and photographed the planets, which looked almost like a single, bright "star" in the sky. However, us Earthlings weren't the only ones who got a celestial show.
NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), which launched in 2009 and has enough fuel to keep orbiting the moon for another six years, spotted the cosmic event all the way from the moon.
Related: This is what Jupiter and Saturn look like from Mars
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera's (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC) captured an unbelievable image of the two planets just a few hours after the pair's point of closest separation (0.1 degrees), which occurred at TK. Now, while Jupiter and Saturn may have looked like one glowing orb to the naked eye, with the detailed view of the NAC, you can clearly resolve the individual planets. In fact, the image provides so much detail that you can even faintly see Saturn's rings.
Here on Earth, skywatchers were able to see Jupiter's moons with DSLR cameras and even basic telescopes, though Saturn's rings were usually only visible with higher-powered telescopes.
When the NAC captured this image of the two planets, Jupiter was about four times brighter than Saturn, so the brightness of the original image was adjusted to make both equally visible.
While Jupiter and Saturn have a close conjunction once every 20 years, the planets haven't appeared this close since 1623. Additionally, the planetary alignment came just a few days before Christmas, with many dubbing the bright event a "Christmas Star," adding even more to the astronomical excitement.

Big Sean has talked frequently throughout his career about the value of staying true to yourself.
So it's no surprise that theme was underscored when the star rapper met with an aspiring teen musician from Detroit for a recent career mentoring session.
Nyla Lewis, a 19-year-old rapper-singer, landed the opportunity as part of a new McDonald's initiative - Black & Positively Golden Mentors - that also earns her one-on-one time with marketing and digital execs at Roc Nation.
Excerpts of their virtual meeting debuted Wednesday on Instagram, as 32-year-old Big Sean offered advice and took questions from the high-spirited young Lewis. He reflected on his own early days in the hip-hop game.
"I used to try and be like so many other people," he said. "Then I realized that I can maybe be inspired by those people and take from things they've done - but make it my own. Because I'm the best at being me."
Big Sean pointed to a pivotal bit of support he got as a kid: He recounted his first go at writing a rap piece as an 11-year-old and performing for his mom, ts408 review. Myra Anderson, now director of his Sean Anderson Foundation.
"That was a crucial moment for me. She could have definitely shut me down right there on the spot," he told Lewis. "But she didn't – she encouraged it and kept me motivated and kept me going."
Their segment is second in a Black & Positively Golden series that kicked off last month with computer whiz and Dream Hustle Code founder Ian Michael Brock.
Wednesday also brought the latest music video from Sean's "Detroit 2" album, an at-times steamy clip for "Body Language" with Jhené Aiko and featuring guest Ty Dolla Sign.
The album, released in September after a pandemic-prompted delay, has netted Big Sean a best rap performance Grammy nomination for the track "Deep Reverence," featuring Nipsey Hussle.
During a Monday media event to talk about the mentoring program, Sean cited the late L.A. rapper as he offered another chestnut of career wisdom to Lewis.
"It's a marathon," Big Sean said in a nod to the artistic and entrepreneurial approach that was core to Hussle's identity.
"When you're doing things for the right reason," he added, "you're going to get your opportunity. "It's going to fall into place. You're going to get that time to prove yourself, whatever way that is."
Big Sean also looked back on 2020, a year marked by anxiety, turbulence and loss. But he said for those willing to seize the moment, it's also a time to be thoughtful and take stock - to "explore inner space."
"When you go through these moments, a time like this, you've got to wonder: Is this a cocoon?" he said. "Are we ready to come out of it and be bigger, brighter and greater, an elevated version of ourselves?"

McDonald's has touted the Black & Positively Golden program as part of a broader push to support achievement and leadership in the Black community. Earlier this year, for instance, the company launched a $500,000 scholarship fund for students at historically Black colleges and universities.
Detroit gospel singer Kierra Sheard, journalist Jamila Lemieux and NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace are among the figures on deck as Black & Positively Golden Mentors in 2021.

Chelsea are the latest side to express an interest in 19-year-old Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is also wanted by Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been said to be 'leading the race' for the Independiente del Valle wonderkid, who is already a full international at senior level and is expected to command a fee of close to £4.5m.
Caicedo is a United fan and is likely to be keen on a move to Old Trafford, but the Daily Mail believe Chelsea are considering offering him the chance to head to Stamford Bridge instead.
Blues scouts have been monitoring Caicedo for some time and club officials are said to have held talks with intermediaries about potentially launching a bid for the promising teenager.
The young midfielder is also interesting the likes of Newcastle and Brighton, while there is also thought to be interest from mainland Europe, where RB Leipzig and AC Milan have been named as potential suitors.
Under Frank Lampard, launch x431 crp123x review. Chelsea have built a reputation for bringing young players into the first team, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Reece James all blossoming into stars under Lampard's tutelage, and that pathway to the senior side could be more appealing for Caicedo.
However, there have to be questioned asked about why Chelsea would want to sign a new, young midfielder, given they are already overflowing with numbers in that position.
Lampard's first-team squad already features Mount, Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, N'Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour, while Ethan Ampadu, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher are strutting their stuff out on loan. Danny Drinkwater is still kicking about in the reserves as well.
Having said that, those numbers may be trimmed somewhat in the coming months. Sky Sport Italia's Angelo Mangiante recently claimed that Jorginho, Drinkwater and Barkley are three of seven Chelsea players who could leave before the start of next season.
Mangiante also tipped Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses to leave Stamford Bridge as part of the Blues' attempts to finance moves for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

Turbos are dangerous to more than just Brian O'Conner's manifold. If you stick your fingers anywhere near one that's spinning 300,000 times per minute, you're sure to be down a digit or two. You can imagine, then, what happens when you force-feed objects into one that's angrily spooled by a Corvette's V8.
Garrett Mitchell, otherwise known as Cleetus McFarland, autel maxilink ml529. did that for his YouTube channel and it turned out exactly how you'd expect. He sent a Slim Jim, some Twinkies, and a whole frickin' banana through the 88-millimeter Precision Turbo on his seven-second Corvette. Even though he didn't quite hit the target's bullseye every time, he did show some.precision. I'm sorry.
No one in their right mind would tell you this is a good idea, but then again, these folks aren't always concerned about that. If it's good enough for the internet, it's generally good enough for them. That must be why they went beyond the produce aisle with the main stunt.
One way or another, Garrett and the gang acquired some sample breast implants from Ebay and promptly tossed them into the turbo, too. The first, a 175cc implant, was slung across the shop in a hurry. Parts of it just barely hit the target while the rest was sent hurtling toward the wall. It only got worse when they stepped it up to a 650cc implant.
Garrett points out that, yes, that's more displacement than a lot of street bikes are packing. That actually turned out to be a problem as the whole thing wouldn't quite fit in the turbo, so a few failed lob attempts didn't produce the best results. It took a pair of pliers and some bravado to really make the most of it, but still, it was more globule than anything.
You just know that turbo isn't happy, what with it being two-stepped over and over again while also dealing with foreign objects. It starts smoking early on in the video, but that could be because it's mounted the wrong way without a constant oil feed. By the end of it, that haze is coming from the melted silicone more than anything.
Gotta say, I won't ever try this. But that's what the internet's good for. Just be careful and keep it between the lines, Cleetus.

Detroit Lions quarterback gutted out more than three quarters of play in the loss at Tennessee on Sunday.
With a rib injury, a busted thumb on his throwing hand, and, well, 12 years of playing QB for the Lions, Stafford had plenty of reason to not go out there for a team that theoretically has no chance at the playoffs (and with Sunday's loss, officially eliminating them).
JEFF SEIDEL: You'll miss Matthew Stafford when he's gone. Here's why
Still, crp909x. Stafford dropped a few jaws with this play near the goal line.
Dan Orlovsky, the ESPN analyst and Stafford's ex-teammate in Detroit, highlighted how good the 2-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones was in the second quarter.
Orlovsky, who is emerging as the best play breakdown analyst in the business, dissected the play which left Stafford throwing a no-look pass, whizzing by several Titans defenders, that led Jones in the back of the end zone.
"It's remarkable," Orlovsky said in his breakdown, posted on Twitter on Tuesday. "People have been saying that (Chiefs QB) Patrick Mahomes started the no-look. I love Mahomes, but this dude (Stafford) has been doing it since 2009."
"Gosh, this dude's so good. The no-look king."
[ Lions dealing with another COVID-19 outbreak, cancel Tuesday practice ]
This echoes what one of Stafford's contemporaries, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, went out of his way to laud the Lions quarterback last month during former Colts kicker Pat McAfee's podcast.
"A guy who probably doesn't get anywhere near the credit for doing (expletive) like that all the time, he wears No. 9 and plays in Detroit. That dude, what he does with the ball is impressive. It's really, really impressive," Rodgers said.

On Sunday morning, Dutch authorities announced they would ban all flights from the United Kingdom after they discovered the first case of the new, more infectious coronavirus strain believed to have come from England, reported Al Jazeera.
RELATED: PEOPLE WITH NEANDERTHAL GENES MAY HAVE HIGHER RISK OF CONTRACTING COVID-19
"An infectious mutation of the COVID-19 virus is circulating in the United Kingdom. It is said to spread more easily and faster and is more difficult to detect," the Dutch health ministry stated in a statement.
The Dutch public health body RIVM added that it "recommends any introduction of this virus strain from the UK be limited as much as possible by limiting and/or controlling passenger movements."
The ban is set to remain in place till January 1 while authorities examine how the infection happened and whether there are additional cases.
The ban on flights from the UK was ordered by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's cabinet as a "precautionary" measure and bans on other modes of transport are currently being considered.
"Over the next few days, together with other EU member states, the government will explore the scope for further limiting the risk of the new strain of the virus being brought over from the UK," the ministry explained.
In further news, AFP reported that Belgium was suspending flight and train arrivals from Britain from midnight (2300 GMT) Sunday and that Germany was also considering a ban on both UK and South Africa flights.
On Saturday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed that the newly discovered strain of COVID-19 is up to 70% more infectious, maxitpms ts408. according to DW. Luckily, however, vaccines should still be effective against it and it is not believed to be more deadly than the original.
Still, Johnson announced that Christmas would be a lot more limited in the country than originally planned. "It is with a very heavy heart that I must tell you we cannot continue with Christmas as planned," the prime minister said during a press conference.
Johnson further revealed London and southeast England would now be placed in a new Tier 4 level lockdown with much more severe restrictions than previously.
